Sandoval's weight fluctuation in the past few years has been no secret, allegedly losing 30-40 pounds before the start of last season after some encouragement from his teammates.
The 28-year old's weight will be the least of Red Sox fans concerns if he can put up numbers similar to last year's post season, where Sandoval hit .385/.449/..462 with 12 runs scored and five RBIs.
Although he has been great at the position, some may wonder how much longer Sandoval can stay healthy playing a position as demanding as third base with his size and frame. With Mike Napoli's contract expiring at the end of the season, and the fact David Ortiz will eventually lose his battle against father time, it may be wise to consider a move to first base or designated hitter in the Panda's future.
